Richard Lane

Woodturner, Designer Craftsman, Educator, Modelmaker

Once upon a time I made my living by teaching others how to design and make. I can still be found teaching a few days a week, alongside working to produce fine quality turned items.

My preferred medium to work in is Wood, both the native timbers of Britain and Europe, and occasionally working with more exotic timbers sustainably sourced from around the globe by my suppliers.

My work is prominently lathe turned, although frequent use is made of colour, texture, carving and pyrography as demanded by my designs.

My designs do not have a single identifiable style, ideas come either from sitting down doodling and refining, then trying to find a suitable piece of wood, or picking up a piece of wood and looking at grain, colour and proportion to develop an idea.

I am happy to consider commissions, where you have seen my work and would like to own something similar.

I have recently developed and delivered a demonstration/ talk for woodturning clubs, examining some of the design aspects that are commonly met by woodturners. developing a range of techniques that can further the quality of designing commonly seen exhibited on club stands. If your club would be interested in booking me as a demonstrator. please get in touch with me via the contacts page.

My education background and the quality of my turning has led me to being accepted as an approved woodturning tutor by the AWGB, and I am one of the team of tutors at the Max Carey Woodturning Trust. I'm not able at the moment to offer tuition at my premises, but am happy to work with clients in the Avon/ Somerset area who have a home set up and are looking to further their skills.
